National Honor Society

NHS at North Catholic

The Blessed William Joseph Chaminade Chapter of
North Catholic High School

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

2022-2023 Updates for NHS Members and Spring Candidates

The following changes to NHS will immediately be in effect:
  • The one-time membership dues is increased to $50 for those members applying in Spring 2021 and beyond.  This dues covers the cost of our national membership as well as an official NHS white satin stole to be worn at graduation. The stole will remain the member’s, and it will not need to be returned to the school.
  • Current members of NHS are required to document 40 hours of service for the 2022-23 school year by the April deadline (same deadline as the school service deadline set by the Religion department - April 18, 2023).
  • Candidates applying for membership in the Spring 2023 will need to document the following service hours:
      • Junior applicants will need to document 70 hours of service by the end of the first semester of the 2022-23 school year.  Service hours for consideration begin the first day after the completion of the 8th grade year.
      • Sophomore applicants will need to document 55 hours of service by the end of the first semester of the 2022-23 school year.  Service hours for consideration begin the first day after the completion of the 8th grade year.
