The Science Department at North Catholic is dedicated to providing an academically challenging educational program that prepares students for college and career.

Students complete 4 years of science beginning with Biology, followed by Chemistry, Physics and an elective senior year.

There are many opportunities for students to double electives beginning sophomore year. The entire science curriculum including the core curriculum as well as science electives are chosen and designed to foster science literacy. Courses are inquiry-based lab classes containing the most current and pertinent content and concepts in science and designed to enhance students’ critical thinking skills, cooperative learning abilities, and problem-solving techniques.  Students are given opportunities for independent research and experimentation. Advanced Placement courses in Biology, chemistry, physics and computer science are available as well as many honors courses and electives that are career-oriented.

Many faculty members have backgrounds in STEM career experience in biology and chemistry and utilize their experience to provide relevance and application of material.  The science department hosts several
extracurricular clubs which include, Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science, Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair, Robotics Club, Chemistry club, Science Olympiad Team, Environment Club and Envirothon Team.
